Veterans’ Voices for September 3rd, 2008

September 2, 2008 by onair

This week on Veterans’ Voices we talk with Jason Hurd and other IVAW members to see what’s up in Minneapolis for the RNC. When we spoke to him last week, they were at the DNC about to do Operation First Casualty. Independent news sources describe mass arrests in preemptive raids of activists in Minneapolis. Amy Goodman, among those arrested, states that almost 300 people have already been arrested by the end of the first day of the convention.

If you missed last week’s interview with Dr. Russell McCrimmon and Ron Kennedy from the Veterans’ shelter, get it before it’s gone.

UPDATE: James Latimore sent a message to Howard Zinn on May 22nd:

Greetings, Howard. The members of Veterans For Peace are stunned and saddened to learn of the death of your wife. We are, of course, prepared to re-schedule the radio interview set for 4:30 PM on May 27. Is it possible for you to let us know of your wishes? If we don’t hear to the contrary, we will cancel the interview and re-schedule later. Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family, and my apologies for troubling you at this time. James Latimore

Howard Zinn sent back this reply:

Dear James:

Thanks for your kind words., Let’s do the interview as scheduled. I find that I need to be doing something useful in order not to simply grieve. My wife Roz would have waned me to, I know.

Howard

We interviewed him yesterday and will air it in the next couple of weeks. Thanks Howard!

Veterans’ Voices Important Update

May 23, 2008 by onair

Mike Farrell spoke last night at Malaprops to a full house. Unfortunately he was running late coming in from Atlanta and we were unable to get an interview with him last night. We will, however, have a chance to talk to him in a phone interview in the near future. He has devoted the majority of his life to human rights issues and is a former Marine. This should prove to be a great interview.

Additionally, Howard Zinn’s wife passed from this earth this week and we will have to reschedule his interview to a later date. Our thoughts are with him in his time of sorrow and we wish him and his family well.

Next week we will continue our conversation with Ret. Col. Ann Wright. Stay tuned!
